Interested/Not Interested: Yorkshire

My afternoon is a hollow carcass and thoughts have turned to Yorkshire’s season opener against Hampshire at Headingley on Friday. The weather looks promising (12 degrees counts as promising right now) and Hampshire are an intriguing team this season.

Last summer was wild for Yorkshire; could have won it all, didn’t win anything. I suspect this season will pan out in a similarly, although Galeylad’s lads are 5/2 favourites to win their third title in four years.

Some reasons to be interested in Yorkshire:

  1. Tim Bresnan continuing his late-career transition from bowling all-rounder to fluent strokemaker reminiscent of Gordon Greenidge.
  2. Jack Brooks transferring the confidence he gained from his reasonably successful appearance on Celebrity Dinner Date into his cricket.
  3. Weeping with anticipatory nostalgia every time Ryan Sidebottom takes a wicket.
  4. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow combining for 9,000 runs in their single Championship appearance.
  5. Jack Leaning copying Liam Plunkett’s grooming regime.
  6. More unfailingly romantic Instagram posts from David Willey.
  7. The constant potential for Adam Lyth selling out for a seven-figure offer from Advanced Hair Studio.
  8. TheĀ ginger Viking mascot.
  9. Peter Handscomb: the acceptable face of Australian cricket.

Some reasons not to be interested in Yorkshire:

  1. I can’t decide whether a Gary Ballance captaincy is worth getting excited about. Right now I’m saying no, it’s not.
  2. International duty.
  3. Surrey.
  4. More unfailingly romantic Instagram posts from David Willey.

Roll on Friday.
